Malaysia Champions Energy Transition, Water Transformation, Sustainability and Climate Action at Expo 2025 Osaka
Malaysia took centre stage at Expo 2025 Osaka as the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) hosted the highly anticipated WEEK 22 programme at the Malaysia Pavilion in September 2025.
With the theme “Engineering Sustainability, Aspiring Lives”, the week underscored Malaysia’s bold commitment to sustainability, innovation and inclusive progress, while fostering global collaborations in energy transition, water transformation and climate action.
The Secretary General of PETRA, Dato’ Haji Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli, officiated the opening ceremony, which underscored Malaysia’s vision of advancing economic growth in harmony with environmental stewardship. Two flagship Business Forms anchored the week’s programme:
- Energy Transition & Water Transformation Forum – bringing together policymakers, industry leaders and global experts to reaffirm Malaysia’s commitment to a sustainable energy future. Discussions focused on policy alignment, innovation and investment to drive a just and inclusive energy transition, while advancing a strategic vision to transform the water sector through digitalization and integrated resource management.
- Green Technology & Climate Change Forum – offering a platform for practical dialogue on climate resilience and sustainable solutions. Key discussions focused on carbon markets and the role of businesses in advancing the sustainability agenda, while showcasing Malaysia’s homegrown innovators alongside leading industry players championing green innovation at national and international levels.
Together, these forums reinforced Malaysia’s strong aspiration to achieve the Net Zero emission target by 2050, while positioning the nation as a regional leader in energy transition, water transformation and climate action.
Malaysia’s participation generated trade and investment opportunities driven by the participation of Malaysia companies in the energy, water and green technology sectors. Companies participated include Teenage Nasional Berhad (TNB), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Malakoff, UEM Lestra, Air Selangor, Ranhill SAJ, Concorde Renewable Energy, Thursinar Energy, Pumar Solar Power, FatHopes Energy, Global Tunikara, NextGreen Global, Gaia Greentech, Heng Hiap Industries and Cube Global.
