New U.S. Patent for Electro Technology Reactor: Enhancing On-site PFAS Water Treatment Innovation

Ovivo announces the issuance of E2metrix’s latest patent for its innovative electro-technology reactor, marking the 16th patent in E2metrix’s portfolio. This U.S. patent marks a significant milestone for the company, further solidifying its leadership in electrochemical reactor design. With 8 additional patents pending, E2metrix continues to advance its core technologies, which encompass electro-oxidation, electrocoagulation and electro-disinfection processes.

At the heart of E2metrix’s success is its electrotechnology platform, which leverages electricity and its resulting chemical reactions to efficiently remove contaminants from water, wastewater, and industrial water. Over the past decade, the company has deployed more than 200 commercial reactors, all utilising this cutting-edge technology to deliver consistent, reliable and cost-efficient results.

The patented electro-oxidation technology is key to maximising water treatment efficiency. By ensuring thorough mixing within the reactor, the water is exposed uniformly to the electrical field, eliminating dead spaces and preventing gas accumulation. This leads to predictable, repeatable performance in removing contaminants while optimising energy consumption.

Leading the Way in PFAS Destruction
This patented design is particularly critical in destroying per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known for their persistence in the environment and harmful effects. In the electro-oxidation configuration, with non-sacrificial anodes, the reactor maximises direct contact between PFAS molecules and the electrode surface. This direct contact is essential for breaking the notoriously strong carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS, a breakthrough in on-site PFAS destruction.

Expanding Solutions for Water Treatment
Beyond PFAS, the reactor’s versatility extends to other contaminants. For example, under electrocoagulation mode, the system uses sacrificial anodes to remove phosphates, heavy metals, total suspended solids, and much more. The design also makes it easy for customers to maintain, allowing for quick and simple replacement of spent anodes.

This patent provides a strong foundation for tackling a range of water treatment challenges. The reactor’s design enables the expansion of its solutions beyond PFAS destruction, opening doors to other industrial and municipal applications.

As Ovivo and E2metrix continue to grow their patent portfolio, the commitment to advancing water treatment technologies that are efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible remains the same. With this latest patent, E2metrix strengthens its position as a leader in the field, offering innovative solutions to help industries and municipalities address critical water treatment needs.
