Promising outlook for Eco Expo Asia 2022
The Eco Expo Asia 2022 which took place from Dec 14-17 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, as in previous editions featured a wide variety of product zones and pavilions to facilitate exchange and cooperation between different industries under the eco umbrella. In short, there was an increased participation in terms of of exhibitors and visitors.
The expo was well represented by big names in the eco industry. Japan especially made its presence felt with the largest representation and with both Hong Kong and the former recently lifting mandatory hotel quarantine measures, the stage has been set for both countries to renew and deepen cooperation between their respective environmental protection industries. The Japan pavilion was four times larger than its previous editions, representing the best of the country’s innovation, around 30 exhibitors showcasing their latest products and solutions in green transportation, resource up-cycling as well as green finance and ESG.
Japan, similar to Hong Kong has a target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. Japanese firms are particularly strong in eco-friendly products and recycling technologies and their penchant for plastics recycling was one of the many highlights. Green transportation is another important area in the country’s net-zero strategy. Japan has also been a big success in green finance in recent areas, showing their solutions for leasing and financing for solar panels, electric vehicles and more to help achieve carbon neutrality
In addition to the Japan pavilion. Eco Expo Asia 2022 also featured two more pavilions representing Hong Kong and Canada. The host country hosted a number of local companies and government agencies. The Canada pavilion returned with representation from across the multiple industry sectors.
Apart from HK, Japan and Canada, other participating countries include China, France, Germany, Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan.
Across the show floor, the event presented a broad spectrum of green products, innovations, and services from a variety of industries. This year’s event also saw the return of the Startup Zone and Eco Asia Conference, promising to introduce new trends and technologies.
Themed “Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality”, Eco Expo Asia 2022 focussed on four main topics:
- Carbon neutrality – Technologies to help countries around the world to achieve their carbon reduction goals.
- New energy – Leading industry players gathered to display cutting-edge new energy solutions.
- Green finance and ESG -Leveraging HK’s position as a global finance centre, the zone gathered leading players in green financing, environmental research and consultation as well as well as environment-related media and publications.
- Green transportation – A gathering of leading brands within electric vehicles and related solutions to help drive the sector forward.
Ms Judy Cheung, Deputy Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd said with countries around the world committed to various net-zero and carbon neutrality targets, this large-scale business fair can once gain act as a platform bringing together a wide range of industries to tackle the climate crisis.
The fair was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organized by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
