High-level collaboration formalised at ASIAWATER 2026 to drive digital adoption, strengthen utility resilience and advance sector-wide innovation.

The Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN), one of the leading global hubs for smart water innovation, and the Malaysian Water Association (MWA) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration and accelerating digital transformation across Malaysia’s water sector.

The partnership was formally signed during the SWAN Workshop at ASIAWATER 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone in deepening regional engagement and reinforcing shared priorities around resilience, sustainability and innovation in water management.

As water utilities across Malaysia continue to face growing pressures from climate variability, urbanisation and increasing service expectations, the partnership will focus on enabling practical collaboration, strengthening technical capacity and accelerating the adoption of data-driven and digital water solutions.

Through this collaboration, SWAN and MWA will work closely to connect local and international expertise, supporting utilities in leveraging smart water technologies such as real-time monitoring, advanced analytics and intelligent network management to improve operational performance and long-term resilience.

Mohamad Hairi Basri, President of the Malaysian Water Association, said, “Strengthening resilience across Malaysia’s water sector necessitates enhanced collaboration, comprehensive knowledge sharing and the strategic adoption of digital technologies. In partnership with the SWAN Forum, we endeavor to accelerate this transformation through the convergence of expertise and by supporting utilities in the provision of more dependable, efficient and sustainable water services for the future.”

The partnership will also explore opportunities for joint initiatives, including technical workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions and collaborative programmes designed to support utilities on their digital transformation journey.
