ACCIONA Obtains ISO 50001 Certification in Spain and Qatar
The certification recognises the implementation of systems that integrate energy management into all treatment plant operations.
ACCIONA has obtained ISO 50001 certification of AENOR for the energy management systems implemented in five of its water treatment facilities: the Umm Al Houl and Ras Abu Fontas 3 desalination plants in Qatar and the three drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) under the Los Molinos contract located in Badajoz, Spain.
The standard is based on continuous improvement of energy performance by identifying, controlling and optimising energy consumption in all operations.
The Umm Al Houl and Ras Abu Fontas 3 desalination plants operated by ACCIONA have a capacity of more than 500,000 m³/day and 165,000 m³/day respectively, supplying water to 2.9 million people in Qatar.
In addition, various energy optimisation measures are being implemented in the Los Molinos contract DWTPs in Badajoz, including the use of SCREEN, ACCIONA’s digital platform for advanced energy and cost management.
Obtaining this certification is part of the renewal of the company’s energy management system, first certified in 2012. It underscores energy efficiency as a key pillar in the development of transformative solutions for a low-carbon economy.
