SWAN Workshops to Spotlight Practical Digital Water Strategies Across Asia at SIWW 2026 in Singapore
Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN) will host two regional workshops at Singapore International Water Week 2026 (SIWW), held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre. The workshops will feature senior utility leaders from Balibago Waterworks (Philippines),Tokyo Metropolitan Government (Japan), Shenzhen Water (China), PUB Singapore, Urban Utilities (Australia), TasWater (Australia), Irish Water (Ireland), George Municipality (South Africa), Vitens (Netherlands) and Canal de Isabel II (Spain).
Both events will utilise interactive roundtable sessions to engage participants on topics including getting the basics right, decarbonising water systems, leveraging AI for productivity and moving from data to trust.
The first workshop, taking place on 15 June themed, “Adapting South Asia’s Water Systems in a Digital Age” will focus on how utilities in India, Bangladesh and the wider region are addressing non-revenue water (NRW) reduction, smart metering deployment, financing models and climate resilience.
The second workshop, “Transforming Digital Water for Shared Progress,” will be held on 18 June sponsored by Autodesk. Designed for utilities at different stages of digital maturity, the workshop will explore topics ranging from smart metering and its evolution from hype to high impact to a debate on whether AI is a game changer or a costly distraction. This SWAN APAC Alliance event will also feature a unique utility-led “reverse shark tank” session in which utilities present operational challenges for which they are seeking solutions, concluding with a networking reception hosted by Autodesk.
Singapore International Water Week is a key platform for the global water community to come together, share knowledge and explore practical solutions to shared challenges. The SWAN workshop provides a forum for utilities and industry partners to exchange experience and accelerate data-driven approaches to water management, as the sector faces increasing pressure from climate change, demographic shifts and resource constraints.
Yiu Yan Tong, Senior Assistant Director, PUB Singapore
Kosuke Wakabayashi, Director for Water Supply Division at Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will speak on long-term infrastructure planning and urban water resilience.
As we face an aging society and a shrinking workforce, smart metering plays a vital role in ensuring stable utility operations and improving service quality for the future. The challenge, and our primary focus, is recognising that this is not merely a hardware upgrade, but a fundamental shift in how we work. We must redefine our on-site protocols and stakeholder relationships to build truly sustainable systems.
